FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT CHEMICAL PEEL TREATMENTS

FAQ’S

Clearstone’s Signature Chemical Peel: How does it work?

Clearstone’s Signature Chemical Peels are customized peel treatments that offer a wonderful way to produce cellular turnover and rejuvenate the skin to achieve a lighter, brighter, more evened out skin tone. A chemical solution is applied on the treatment area stimulating old skin cells to shed, then replaced with fresh, new healthier skin cells. Those new layers of cells help to further improve smoother skin texture, minimize fine lines & wrinkles, and aid in preventing clogged pores. Its key ingredients greatly enhances the skin to reduce primarily mild to moderate acne, control breakouts, and manage oil production as well as reduce mild to moderate sun damage and hyperpigmentation. Signature Chemical Peels provides superior results for all skin types (Fitzpatrick 1-6) and may be combined with other advanced skin care treatments such as Dermaplaning and/or Microdermabrasion.

What type of chemical peels do you offer?
    • Signature Chemical Peel is the perfect customized solution that focuses on targeting your specific skin concerns. It’s important to understand the different types of chemical peel strengths and ingredients that will affect your skin and outcome of your results. Our highly experienced aesthetician will carefully perform a thorough evaluation of your skin so that we can determine the best chemical peel treatment plan that’s right for you. As your new skin continues to improve, we can easily adjust the level of strength most appropriate for your skin.
    • Clearstone offers a variety of chemical peel that’s suitable for your skin type and skin care goals. Ask about our Micropeel also known as the “lunchtime peel” treatment and our very popular peel, the VI Peel.
    What areas can be treated?

Signature Chemical Peel is a treatment mainly for the face. It may also be applied to other areas of the body. Please consult with our aesthetician for additional details.

How many treatments will I need?

Our guests have seen amazing results after having just one treatment! The spacing between chemical peel treatments will vary depending on the strength of your peel. For maximum results, our aestheticians will recommend proper home care for the maintenance of healthy skin and a unique skincare regimen for your skin goals and needs.

Am I good candidate for chemical peel treatments?

At home skin care products may not have the capacity to respond to complicated skin conditions. And, some expensive brand name products can leave your skin irritated or continue to worsen overtime. This can be highly frustrating especially if you’re still not getting the results you desire. If you are seeking to combat acne conditions, reduce hyperpigmentation, improve fine lines and wrinkles, then a medical-grade chemical peel treatment may be your solution. Are you ready to enhance your skin? Your aesthetician will perform a full skin evaluation and customize an affordable treatment plan right for your skin goals.

How is the chemical peel procedure performed?

We will prep the treatment area by double cleansing the skin. Washing the skin will also help remove oils or any buildup of debris from dead skin. Once the skin is fully cleansed, then the peel is spread topically over the treatment area. The process can take anywhere between 30-60 minutes to complete depending on the required treatment and anatomical site. Will will provide you post-treatment instructions for the peeling process. It is imperative to follow these instructions to achieve optimal results.

What does a chemical peel treatment feel like?

Our guest report little to no discomfort throughout the course of the treatment. A stinging sensation and penetration of the peel may feel enhanced and is completely normal. Following your chemical peel, your skin may appear flushed. Some guests have reported skin tightness and sensitivity and is expected to normalize over several days. Please speak with your aesthetician as sensation may vary depending on the type of peel being applied. If you are feeling any discomfort during the peeling process please do not hesitate to contact our office at 832-460-4200.

How long will it take to recover?

Your chemical peel treatment is expected to produce significant visible exfoliation to your skin. As such, you will likely experience perceived social downtime. Your face will appear flushed or red immediately after your treatment. The following day, your skin may appear darker in color, feel tighter, and may be more photosensitive. We expect the areas to resolve with continued flaking – which may take up to 10 days. Do not pull or peel the flaking skin from the treated area as hyperpigmentation, scarring, or discoloration will likely result. In addition, hyperpigmented, or darker areas of your skin, will likely “pepper” to the surface – which is not to be mistaken as scar tissue or the occurrence of further darkening of your skin.

What aftercare plan do I need?

Your aesthetician will provide post-care treatment instructions. It is vital that you follow the aftercare plan. Avoid prolonged direct sun exposure, heat, and sweating from exercising until the peeling process has completed. Please keep in mind this may take up to 14 days. You may need several treatments or continue maintenance peels to sustain the improvement in the tone, complexion and laxity of the skin. Remember, consistency is key! It is important that you follow your customized skin care regimen to achieve maximum results. The frequency will depend on the individual’s own genetics, age and lifestyle. For best results and to further enhance your post-treatment, we recommend our wonderful line of Rhonda Allison®, EltaMd®, and SkinBetter Science® medical-grade products.

    • While generally very safe and effective, as with any aesthetic treatment, certain risks exist with chemical peels and can vary depending upon the strength of the formulation used, your natural skin tone, and your unique response factor. Please read Risks of Chemical Exfoliations.
What key ingredients are used in chemical peels?

Clearstone Signature Chemical Peels are medical-grade, non-invasive, and innovative skin rejuvenation treatments that effectively exfoliate the skin. Our chemical peels are formulated consisting of rich ingredients such as glycolic acid, salicylic acid, absorbic acid (vitamin C), retinol, trichloroacetic acid (TCA), and oxygenating & detoxifying actives. These powerful ingredients are absorbed into the skin to produce dramatic results for maximum benefits.

    Risks of Chemical Exfoliation

While generally very safe and effective, as with any aesthetic treatment, certain risks exist with chemical peels and can vary depending upon the strength of the formulation used, your natural skin tone, and your unique response factor.

While very rare, guests may experience post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation (PIH) following a chemical peel. While we find that for some individuals the first treatment brings existing pigmentation closer to the surface of the skin and is effectively exfoliated with additional treatments, other individuals may experience the darkening of skin due to the inflammatory process of the treatment. Usually temporary in nature, PIH can nevertheless take many months to resolve. Clearstone will advise you of the application of post peel soothing balms with active ingredients intended to reduce inflammation and mitigate the chances of PIH formation.

Purging is sometimes seen in our guests, which is believed to be the body’s way of “pushing out” the dead skin as well as other debris from the treated area. Usually resembling acne, those that experience a purging effect will see the collection of white blood cells and other fluid with an associated superficial infection that usually self-resolves with easy care considerations. At times, we may need to provide additional medical attention to actively treat the infected areas with antibiotics. PIH can form following this purging effect, necessitating additional exfoliation treatments or a daily correction regime.

Some of the additional risks include allergic reactions to active ingredients, excessive burning to the treated area and hyper-sensitivity to heat or sun light following your treatment. Clearstone will provide a consultation prior to your chemical peel to thoroughly review the risks and benefits of chemical peels as well as to provide the necessary guidance to increase the effectiveness of treatments while reducing these risks.

Under the direction of our on-site physician medical director, Clearstone’s licensed medical aestheticians have performed hundreds of chemical peels with exceptional client satisfaction.
