How does Dermaplaning work?
Dermaplaning is a non-invasive skin treatment that uses a specialized #10 surgical blade held at a 45 degree angle that gently scrapes off the top layer of your skin. It is similar to shaving, but instead of using a razor, the blade helps to remove dull, dry & flaky skin cells, pesky peach fuzz and any other debris that is on the surface of the skin. Results give skin a smoother surface and a more glowing complexion.
What areas can be treated?
Dermaplaning is a treatment mainly for the face. Our aesthetic professionals can recommend options if you would like other areas of the body for treatment.
How many treatments will I need?
For best results, Dermaplaning may be repeated on a monthly basis. It is a procedure that can be applied as part of your skin care regimen and/or to be combined with other skin care treatments.
Am I a good candidate for Dermaplaning?
If you’re looking for an amazing exfoliating treatment, Dermaplaning is a wonderful way to help improve your skin’s conditions over time. The procedure works for virtually anyone, both men and women on all skin types – from very dark to very light. However, Dermaplaning should be avoided if you suffer from active acne, rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, or deep acne scarring. Our professional aestheticians may recommend other options for a customized treatment regimen right for your skin type and skin goals.
Will hair be thicker when it grows back?
No. After a Dermaplning treatment your hair does not grow back thicker, darker, or courser. And no, you won’t grow a beard after the treatment! Dermaplaning only treats the outer layer of your skin cells, so it’s not affecting or pulling the root of your hair follicle. However, do understand that hormonal imbalance that may be present within your anatomical system can alter the normal hair growth pattern.
How is Dermaplaning procedure performed?
Dermaplaning is normally completed within 20-30 minutes depending on the required treatment and anatomical site. Before starting your treatment, make sure all your makeup is removed. We will prep the skin by applying a face cleanser and massaging it onto the skin. Washing the skin will also help remove oils or any buildup of dead skin debris. Next, a #10 blade will be used to gently scrape areas on the forehead, cheeks, side of the face, chin and jawline. Your aesthetician may recommend a very light chemical peel following the Dermaplaning procedure. Once the Dermaplaning procedure is completed, a toner and rich moisturizer will be applied to delay skin aging and to help boost collagen production.
What does Dermaplaning feel like?
Our guests report little to no discomfort throughout the course of the treatment. The blade will feel like a gentle, scraping pressure on your skin. If a chemical peel is part of the treatment, a sensation and penetration of the peel may feel enhanced. If you are feeling any discomfort during the procedure, please let your aesthetician know so that we may adjust as needed in our effort to achieve a safe and effective treatment without undesirable side effects.
Is Dermaplaning considered safe?
Dermaplaning procedures are performed in a safe and precise manner with the use of a professional, sterile #10 surgical blade. At Clearstone, we use disposable blades which cannot be used more than once, giving you a peace of mind that there’s no risk of cross-contamination. Clearstone uses proper sanitation precautions and ensure a clean environment for every one of our guests. Our medical level aestheticians are highly knowledgeable, trained professionals. Only licensed aestheticians can perform this advanced skin treatment procedure in the state of Texas.
How long will it take to recover?
Dermaplaning is a non-invasive treatment and provides for minimal social downtime. It is normal to see small nicks or cuts. Mild redness of the skin may appear; however, this will eventually heal almost immediately.
What aftercare plan do I need?
Your aesthetician will give you post-treatment instructions and it is important that you follow the aftercare treatment plan. You will be sensitive to ultraviolet light and you must avoid direct sun exposure until completely healed. Fully cover your treated skin or use a good sunscreen 1 day after your treatment whenever you go outdoors. Depending on the treatment, we may give you soothing after skin care products and instructions on how to use them. For best results and to further enhance your post-treatment, we recommend Clearstone’s wonderful line of Rhonda Allison®, EltaMd®, and SkinBetter Science® products.
